My beekeeping adventures. Bees, honey, beeswax, mead, etc.

Remember beekeeping is local, depending on growing season, etc.

I am located in Central New Jersey, USA which is USDA Zone 7.

It's that time again

Knife the caps off, scrape the caps off problem spots. Into the centrifuge. 8 minutes per side. Done extracting, bottling next.
40% done, 50 lbs of honey already. Thanks ladies! A beehive contains about 90% females. Dont ask what happens to the males, its scary.

All equipment borrowed from Central Jersey Beekeeping Association. For a hand crank unit this extractor is great, not a lot of effort involved.

Extracted honey, the ladies are cleaning up for me. They will transport every last drop back to the hives

Honeybee Oasis: Welp wasn't a fire drill.

Sting O Meter 2022 = Seven. I accidentally crushed one and got another sting in the finger tip.
Luckily I had some extra equipment and Swarm Commander spray. They're not in the box yet. Fingers crossed.

Beekeeping Oasis: Welp the ladies are at it again.

Swarm from the B hive. 2 week ago they barely have 2 frames of brood capped, ~6,000 bees to be hatched.
Hopefully this will be like last year, a fire drill, and go back into the same hive.
