My beekeeping adventures. Bees, honey, beeswax, mead, etc.

Remember beekeeping is local, depending on growing season, etc.

I am located in Central New Jersey, USA which is USDA Zone 7.

Well still had a light frost on the grass this morning. (Damn groundhog saw his shadow so maybe a late start this year.)

Time to repair any wooden boxes,
See who survived the winter,
Pickup twigs etc.
Feed the girls sugar water in early spring if needed.

Once temps stay above 45°F continuously, i can open the boxes briefly and check how much food they have. A queen will lay 1,500 eggs a day as long as there is enough honey and pollen available.

There was 3-4 days where the girls were flying and gathering pollen.

To be continued...

Honeybee Oasis: Welp wasn't a fire drill.

Sting O Meter 2022 = Seven. I accidentally crushed one and got another sting in the finger tip.
Luckily I had some extra equipment and Swarm Commander spray. They're not in the box yet. Fingers crossed.

Beekeeping Oasis: Welp the ladies are at it again.

Swarm from the B hive. 2 week ago they barely have 2 frames of brood capped, ~6,000 bees to be hatched.
Hopefully this will be like last year, a fire drill, and go back into the same hive.
